I grew up with more curiosity than pocket money and a slightly questionable sense of what counted as a good idea. Think Tom Sawyer with his eyes on the next horizon. What’s over there? Can I get to it? And how much trouble am I going to be in when I get back?
When the world within walking distance wasn’t big enough, I made up others. Sometimes that meant staring at the sky and wondering what life would be like as an astronaut dinosaur. Practical career planning was never really the point. Those worlds gave me adventure, company, and somewhere safe to land.
I still tell myself stories before bed. These days, I’m letting other people in on them, too. Somewhere out there might be someone who grew up a little like me, who could use a reminder that a small beginning doesn’t put a fence around your imagination.
Lilith Warbird began with my daughter. If I was working on a car or getting into some other dirty job, she was right beside me, full of confidence and ready to take on whatever came next. My little warrior princess. One day I wondered what someone with her spirit might become without her family beside her. Lilith grew from that question.
I love stories rooted in history and myth, especially when they wander somewhere strange and leave a character facing an impossible choice. Give me someone who looks into the terrifying unknown and heads in anyway, and I’ll pull up a chair.
Away from writing, I’m a gamer, a camper, a hiker, and a music lover whose tastes refuse to stay in one genre. I was once the kid hunting for loose change to feed the arcade machines at Pizza Hut. There’s probably still a little of that kid making the decisions.
What do I hope you get from my stories? A good adventure. A reason to grin when you close the last page. And maybe an idea of your own that won’t leave you alone until you find out where it goes.
